Laurie J Baker
Healer | Writing Consultant | Master of Ceremony
Hello, my name is Laurie. I am a life-long enthusiast and idea person, curious and intuitive. Communication, kindness, patience and synthesis are traits that I’ve worked to cultivate in myself. The Naturally Conscious Community (NCC), of which I am a member, calls people like me “multipotentialites.” My interests are ever-evolving, but there is continuity to them as well. Like an ever-moving spiral, I travel through study, work, play, and relationships and the golden thread that connects all is synchronicity and my spiritual journey. Synchronicity is a powerful force, one worth cultivating in every life.
What I love.
I love to learn the ways of other beings and cultures, to live in nature, to craft rituals and worship, to walk slowly with my senses attuned, to serve, to witness and to muse on the nature of all things, holding fast to the words of St. Julian of Norwich: “All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well.”
The short form of my long résumé.
“Laurie has worked as caregiver, journalist, communications, publications and project manager, college teacher (museum and women’s studies), free-lance writer/editor, nonprofit executive director, actor, storyteller, swim instructor, worship coordinator, ritual leader, officiant and healer.”
As a Piscean triple water sign (with fire dominating the chart), I am fascinated by the contrasts and similarities between the worlds of energy and matter, as well as the principle of “as above, so below.” I have been engaged by imagination and mysticism since childhood. (I first learned to talk with trees while growing up lonely in Cando, North Dakota.) I find I am perpetually both student and teacher: of nonviolent communication as taught by Marshall Rosenburg; of cosmology, world religions and spiritual physics; of yoga, ayurveda and healing; along with many theories and styles of communication and a host of other subjects.
My seven decades of life have mostly been spent on the northern plains where several of my dearest ki-friends are Cottonwood trees. (Ki and Kin are pronouns for plants. Click their link for more information.) Although they have quite messy personal habits, Cottonwoods are excellent singers and storytellers.
